The United Kingdom has a long and storied history in metallurgical mining. Even today, iron ore extraction operations across the country demand equipment that is not just powerful, but precise, reliable, and built to perform across demanding multi-shift schedules. When one of our UK-based customers came to us with a persistent problem — oversized iron ore blocks repeatedly causing blockages at their primary crusher — we knew exactly what they needed.
We supplied the WHA610 fixed rockbreaker boom system, finished in bold red and shipped in a 40HQ container, ready to transform the way this metallurgical mine handled its most challenging material processing bottleneck.

Iron ore, by its very nature, is extracted in irregular shapes and sizes. In a high-output metallurgical mining environment, the primary crusher is the heartbeat of the entire operation — and when oversized ore blocks cause a blockage, everything stops.
Our UK customer was experiencing exactly this problem. Large iron ore fragments, too big to pass through the crusher inlet, were causing repeated stoppages that disrupted production schedules, placed unnecessary stress on the crushing equipment, and created safety risks for the operators tasked with clearing the blockages manually.
They needed a permanent, automated solution — one that could handle the toughest iron ore fragments quickly, precisely, and safely, without interrupting the broader production flow.
After a thorough assessment of the customer's site layout, crusher configuration, and iron ore characteristics, the WHA610 emerged as the clear choice. Here's why:
The WHA610 offers a maximum horizontal working radius of 7,530mm and a maximum vertical working radius of 6,090mm, with a 360° rotation capability. This generous reach ensures that the boom can access oversized material across the full width of the crusher inlet — no blind spots, no compromises.
Equipped with a powerful hydraulic hammer purpose-built for hard and abrasive rock, the WHA610 delivers the impact energy needed to break dense iron ore fragments efficiently. What previously required manual intervention — and significant downtime — can now be resolved in seconds.
One of the most critical concerns in any crusher environment is protecting the crusher liners, mantles, and surrounding structures from accidental impact. The WHA610's advanced control system allows operators to position the hammer with surgical precision, striking only the target material and leaving the surrounding equipment completely unharmed.
The WHA610 is operated from a secure remote control station, keeping personnel at a safe distance from the hazardous crushing zone. This not only dramatically improves on-site safety but also gives operators a better vantage point to observe and control the breaking process.
Metallurgical mining operations don't stop. The WHA610 is engineered for the rigors of continuous, multi-shift use — with a robust construction, reliable hydraulic components, and a simplified maintenance design that ensures fast, easy servicing and maximum uptime.
From the moment the WHA610 was commissioned, the results were both immediate and measurable:
The most pressing problem — oversized iron ore blocking the primary crusher — was resolved almost overnight. The WHA610's powerful breaking capability and precise positioning meant that no fragment was too large or too awkwardly shaped to be dealt with quickly and efficiently.
With blockages no longer halting production, the customer's primary crusher was able to operate at consistently higher utilization rates. The knock-on effect across the entire processing line was substantial — more ore processed, more targets met, more revenue generated.
By breaking oversized iron ore before it entered the crusher, the WHA610 significantly reduced peak loads on the crushing equipment. This translated directly into lower wear rates on crusher liners and mantles, extending their service life and reducing long-term maintenance expenditure.
A steadier, more uniform feed into the crusher produced more consistently sized output material — an important factor in meeting the strict specifications required for downstream metallurgical processing.
Perhaps most importantly, the need for operators to manually intervene in blockage situations was eliminated entirely. The remote-controlled WHA610 kept personnel well away from the crushing zone, creating a fundamentally safer working environment.
From the very first conversation, this project felt like a genuine partnership. Our UK customer came to us with a clear problem and an open mind — and we responded with a solution that was technically sound, commercially competitive, and backed by a track record of successful deployments in similar applications around the world.
During the commissioning phase, our technical team provided comprehensive remote support to ensure the WHA610 was installed and calibrated correctly for the specific conditions of the site. The feedback from the customer's operations team was gratifying — within the first week of operation, the site manager reported that the persistent blockage issues that had plagued their production line for months had been completely resolved.
"We've tried other approaches over the years," he told us, "but nothing has come close to the difference this machine has made."
That kind of response is what drives everything we do at YZH.
The UK mining and minerals processing industry operates to exacting standards. Equipment suppliers who want to succeed in this market must demonstrate not just product quality, but a genuine understanding of the operational challenges their customers face — and the ability to deliver solutions that perform reliably in real-world conditions.
Our successful deployment of the WHA610 in a UK metallurgical mining environment reflects YZH's commitment to meeting those standards. It also reinforces our confidence as we prepare to meet the broader UK and European quarrying and mining community at Hillhead 2026 — where we'll be exhibiting at Booth RB24 from June 23–25 in Buxton, Derbyshire.
If you're attending Hillhead, we'd love to discuss how the WHA610 or other solutions from our range could benefit your operation. Come and find us.
The deployment of the WHA610 fixed rockbreaker boom system at a UK metallurgical mine stands as a compelling example of what the right equipment, correctly specified and properly supported, can achieve. By eliminating crusher blockages, reducing downtime, protecting crushing equipment, and improving operator safety, the WHA610 delivered transformative results — and a return on investment that the customer felt from day one.
At YZH, we believe that every successful project is built on three things: the right product, the right engineering, and the right relationship. This project had all three.
If your mining or quarrying operation is facing challenges with oversized material management, I'd welcome the opportunity to explore how YZH can help.
